why can light people darken there skin but when dark people want to lighten theres people freak?

It seems like on yahoo answers when really dark of just tanner people want to lighten there skin a bit they always get the same lecture about loving the skin there in and how bad it is that they'd ever want to change how they are blahhh blahh blahh, but its extremely normal for white or whiter people to lay out in the sun for hours, go to a tanning bed, or get a chemical spray tan? and this is sooo much more acceptable??? it doesn't make since to me. how come they dont get the same lecture?

omg i totally know what you mean. i'm asian and although im not naturally really dark skinned, i tan really easily but i dont like it cos it takes a long time for the tan to fade. and ppl always tell me its stupid to lighten my skin. but when i tell them that i think its stupid that they wanna be as dark as possible, they're just like oh it's different. you should be happy, i wish i could tan as easily as you. it's like they think their opinion of whats beautiful is more important than mine. it makes me so mad >=(
